Dr. Douglas Kratt of Onalaska, Wisconsin, was elected American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) president-elect at the AVMA Convention in Washington, D.C., on August 2.
A University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine graduate, Dr. Kratt practices at Central Animal Hospital, a small animal veterinary hospital that he has owned since 1998. His interests include surgery, oncology and nutrition.
Dr. Kratt is an active member of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA), and just completed his term representing Wisconsin as a delegate on the AVMA House of Delegates. He is a previous WVMA president and has served on numerous WVMA committees and task forces.
On the national level, Dr. Kratt has served on AVMA’s House Advisory Committee, Strategic Management Committee and Task Force on Volunteer Engagement. In addition, he is a graduate of the 2012-2013 AVMA Future Leaders program.
Locally, Dr. Kratt established medical and preventative care protocols for police canines and donates veterinary care to the Wisconsin State Patrol K9s, the Onalaska Police Department, Campbell Police Department, Holmen Police Department and Tomah’s Police Department K9s.
“I am very excited to be elected AVMA president-elect,” Dr. Kratt said. “My first goal is to connect with members and to listen to their stories. What I hope to accomplish is to be one of many leaders serving as a channel of information between the members and the AVMA as well as implementing the strategic plan of the organization. We must remember that the members are at the center of what all veterinary organizations do. I strive to make changes for the better within the veterinary medical profession and all it affects.”
