Speakers

Laura Brandt, DVM, MS, DACVP (Clinical Pathology)
Dr. Laura Brandt completed veterinary school at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. She then made her way to the Chicago suburbs where she completed a private practice, small animal, rotating internship, followed by a year of clinical practice as an emergency clinician. While she enjoyed the interesting cases and animal contact, the serenity of time spent at the microscope won out, and Dr. Brandt went on to pursue a clinical pathology residency at Colorado State University. Simultaneously, she obtained a master’s degree in microbiology. Upon completion of her residency in 2011, Dr. Brandt took a position with Gribbles Veterinary, a commercial diagnostic laboratory in New Zealand as a diagnostic pathologist. After a few years down under, it was time to return stateside and Laura obtained an instructorship at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine where she enjoyed a busy and diverse cytology and hematology case load, as well as training residents and veterinary students alike. For the next few years, Laura made her home in the Denver metro area, launching and overseeing the Ethos Diagnostic Science Denver laboratory, housed within Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital. This position was a blend of technical and medical training for veterinarians and lab staff, management, community outreach and diagnostic microscopy. With the acquisition of Ethos Diagnostic Science by Zoetis Reference Labs (ZRL), Laura joined Zoetis in spring 2020. She was appointed head of cytopathology for ZRL in October 2020 and has enjoyed settling into her new role leading an amazing group of clinical pathologists and continuing her diagnostic cytology endeavors. She is passionate about educating her veterinary colleagues and contributing to the advancement of veterinary medicine and animal welfare.
