Dr. Glen Johnson Named Veterinarian of the Year
The Wisconsin Veterinary Medica
l Association (WVMA) awarded Dr. Glen Johnson, of Reedsburg, the WVMA Veterinarian of the Year Award at its 97th Annual Convention on Friday, Oct. 12.
Colleague and friend, Dr. Dave Rhoda, Evansville, presented the prestigious award.
Dr. Rhoda describes Dr. Johnson as committed, practical, logical, and passionate.
"I met Glen through his work with the WVMA and was impressed with his commitment to continuing education, to advancing the image and professionalism of the veterinary profession, and his quiet demeanor which was always focused on reaching solutions for difficult issues," states Dr. Rhoda.
Dr. Johnson graduated from Michigan State in 1976. He currently practices at Reedsburg Veterinary Clinic as a large animal practitioner.
While being involved in the WVMA, Dr. Johnson has served on the Residue Task Force, Best Practices Committee, Dairy Welfare Subcommittee, and VE Rules Subcommittee.
"Our recipient has served ably on all the most difficult, complex, and controversial issues that face food animal medicine," says Dr. Rhoda. "These include animal welfare, judicious use of drugs in food animals, and how to supply compassionate care of animals that are contributing to society as a food supply."
"His service to the profession has been diverse and time consuming, which is everyone's most treasured resource. Glen also has volunteered his time and expertise with UW students by serving the UW School of Veterinary Medicine through the years in sharing his work with the dairy production medicine dairy comp students and the dairy science department milk quality programs," Dr. Rhoda adds.
Most recently, Dr. Johnson served as the District 5 Director of the Association of American Bovine Practitioners, representing Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.
