Food-Armor-HACCPThe Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA) is always looking for ways to continually improve the veterinarians role in food safety. The WVMA joined efforts with the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW) to form “What Matters”, an initiative joining veterinarians and producers together to reduce food residues and ensure proper drug use on our dairy farms.  Food Armor is the "how" of what matters.

Food Armor™ Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association HACCP for Proper Drug Use is a proven, six-step on-farm program to ensure food safety (of both meat and milk) and responsible medication use on dairy farms.

This program identifies potential risks (hazards) and provides the knowhow and action plan to implement safeguards and management practices (critical control points), creating an achievable HACCP (Hazards Analysis and Critical Control Points) plan.

Food Armor™ WVMA HACCP for Proper Drug Use requires veterinarians and producer teams to work seamlessly to create a HACCP plan that is customized to the farm’s management and employee’s skills and needs.

Working together as partners is crucial

Food Armor™ WVMA HACCP for Proper Drug Use requires veterinarians and producer teams to work seamlessly to create a HACCP plan that is customized to the farm’s management and employee’s skills and needs.

Food Armor™ is the only program of its kind to layout the “how” veterinarians and producers can work together to obtain the goal of food safety and stands to redefine drug use in the dairy industry. To date, the WVMA is the only individual and/or group that has provided the industry with a solution.

This process helps producers and veterinarians address animal welfare by identifying and stopping treatment of the incurable, which essentially reduces pain and suffering of the animal, while increasing food safety. It is an on-farm action plan.

A better future

Consumers will continue their quest for more information on how and where their food is produced. Food Armor™ will allow those in food production to remain diligent to food safety and consumer confidence.

These six-steps allow veterinarians, producers and the supporting dairy industry a better future of continued safe food products and freedoms to operate using the veterinary medical technology and medication available.
